Volunteers of America of North Louisiana is looking for tutors to help fourth and eighth grade students prepare for the April LEAP assessment test.
Volunteers are only needed for one or two hours a week to help tutor the students. Each tutor will work with one student and review skills needed to do well on the test. A workbook is provided.
The VOA says students who took part in the program generally had higher scores than other students.
Tutoring begins Jan. 22 and will continue until April 4 except for the week of preliminary testing (March 18-22) and Spring Break (March 28 – April 1) Volunteers can choose one or two hours a week from the following times and places:
- Westwood Elementary, 7325 Jewella Ave. - 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- The LightHouse, 802 Travis St. - Choose two hours a week between 4 to 5:30 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Please call or e-mail Sondra Dixon at 429-7510 or sondra.dixon@voanorthla.org if you are able to help.
