BPCC announces Camp Cavs Summer Youth Camps 2013 offerings

Camp Cavs, BPCC’s summer program for kids, will be held in the months of June and July. Camps are 3 or 4 hours and are scheduled Monday-Friday, unless otherwise noted. Camps are available for ages 5-18 and will include softball, basketball, karate, BMX, cheer, dance, guitar, theater/drama, painting, drawing, CSI, writing to name a few. All campers will receive T-shirts.

Registration for Camp Cavs is open, and camps will be held at Bossier Parish Community College campus, UNLESS otherwise noted.  There may be additional supply fees associated with certain camps.

Holiday in Dixie to host first BBQ cook-off

The Holiday in Dixie Ambassadors Club will host the inaugural Holiday in Dixie BBQ Cook-Off from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the riverfront area of Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

Admission is $10 and includes three BBQ sample tickets. Additional sample tickets may be purchased for $1. Proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Holiday in Dixie Senior Essay Scholarship for Caddo and Bossier Parish students.

Secretary of State Tom Schedler is encouraging all Louisianians eligible to vote in the April 6 primary election to consider voting early starting this Saturday. Early voting begins Saturday, March 23rd and continues through Saturday, March 30. The polls will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, excluding Good Friday (March 29) and Easter Sunday (March 31).

BPCC baseball goes pink for breast cancer awareness

The BPCC Cavalier baseball team will don pink jerseys in honor of breast cancer awareness for its game at 3 p.m. Monday, March 25, against Eastfield College at BPCC ball field, 6220 E. Texas St. in Bossier City.

All gate proceeds will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Foundation.  Admission to the game will be a donation to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Donations for admission to the game are strictly on a volunteer basis.

Caddo Council on Aging to hold March for Meals event

The Caddo Council on Aging is proud to announce the 9th Annual March for Meals will be held at Noon on March 13 in Festival Plaza. The goal of the event is to raise awareness for the needs of area seniors.  

Mayor Cedric Glover and Caddo Sheriff Steve Prator will serve as the VIP Grand Marshalls of the March for Meals and will be accompanied by Shreveport’s own Dallas Cowboy Morris Claiborne. Other March participants include the Byrd High School Marching Band and Cheerleading Squad, Byrd High School Concert Band, Shreveport City Council representatives, Caddo Council on Aging Board of Directors, and representatives from many organizations and businesses who support our seniors. In addition, area food and beverage vendors will be on-site for the event.

Bossier City needs lifeguards

Bossier City’s Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for lifeguards to staff the city’s three public swimming pools this summer.

Applicants can sign up at the BPAR office in the Public Service Complex, 3223 Old Shed Road and are encouraged to do so at their earliest convenience in order to ensure all pools will be fully staff by opening day of May 31.
