Bossier City native competing in National Deaf Association bowling tournament

20-year-old Bossier City native Shelby Silverman came in first place in the doubles competition today during the National Deaf Association Mixed Bowling Tournament in Baton Rouge. Her high score today was 204. On June 23, her team of four bowlers came in fifth place in team competion. Her high game score was 178 and her three game average was 150. Friday she competed in the double's competition with Hebrons Ford, Jr. from Arkansas. Shelby is a graduate of Airline High School and a current student at Bossier Parish Community College.

 Second Baseman Taylor Pittman, who plays for Bossier Parish Community College's Cavalier Baseball team, has been recognized with two national honors. 

Pittman has been named NJCAA Division I Baseball Defensive Player of the Year from Easton™ Baseball and is also the winner of the 2011 NJCAA Division I Rawlings Gold Glove Award®.

The women are part of the Going Places Network, a job readiness program of Volunteers of America Dress for Success Shreveport-Bossier.

Centenary’s ace Seth Lugo saw his talents recognized when he was selected by the New York Mets in the 34th round of the 2011 MLB First-Year Player Draft, on Wednesday.

Lugo, a junior from Bossier City, La., went 1032 overall.

Students from Airline High School and Parkway High School took top honors at the recent 4th Annual Cyber Discovery Camp, sponsored by the Cyber Innovation Center.

The robotics competition was held on June 4 at Louisiana Tech University.

A pair of teammates for the Twin City Knockers Roller Derby helped give a boost to the area's local rescue mission.

Desiree' Davis and Amanda Icenhower took part in the Kids Bowl Free Celebrity & Local Heroes challenge and bowled well enough to win $1,500 for the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission.

Five students from two Bossier City schools will receive scholarships from the Ark-La-Tex Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America. The scholarships will be handed out on Saturday, June 4th during a ceremony at the Barksdale Club on Barksdale Air Force Base.
