Alternative school in Bossier faces possible closing

SHREVEPORT, LA (KSLA)- Where does a child turn when their last option is taken away from them? AMI Kids Red River is an alternative school for troubled youths that has a proven track record of success. 85% of children accepted into the program stay crime free after completion.

Despite that success, it may fall victim to a round of government budget cuts. According to Kathy Canerday, Executive Director of AMI Kids Red River, these cuts are aimed in the wrong direction, and will only increase government spending.

BARKSDALE AFB, LA (KSLA)- U.S. Secretary of Defense Leon E. Panetta paid a visit to BAFB.

Panetta hosted an All-Call to thank the airmen for operating, maintaining and supporting the long-range strike missions performed by the B-52H Stratofortress, B-2 Spirit and B-1B Lancer bomber aircraft, according to Barksdale officials.

Panetta also presented medals to airmen who served in Afghanistan and other overseas locations. He also met with Headquarters Air Force Global Strike Command officials to receive briefings on global strike capabilities.

Bossier City Fire Fighters claim underpayment

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA)- Bossier City leaders are scrambling to figure out if fire fighters have been underpaid for the last few years. And if it's true, how would they come up with the back pay.

City council was reportedly told of the alleged underpayment by members of the Bossier City Fire Fighters' union on Tuesday.

Teen injured in early morning house fire in Bossier City

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA)-

A 17-year-old girl suffered cuts and burns after narrowly escaping a burning Bossier City home early Friday morning.

The Bossier City Fire Department was called out around 3:45 a.m. to a home in the 1600 block of Field St. and found the home fully engulfed in flames.

According to firefighters, the victim was the only person inside the home at the time of the fire. She reportedly told firefighters that the smell of smoke woke her up and that she managed to escape the burning home by breaking out a window.

Two men arrested in alleged armed robbery attempt

BOSSIER CITY, LA (KSLA) - Bossier City police caught and arrested two men Tuesday night after an alleged attempt to rob a man at gunpoint.

Police said Michael Johnson, 30 and Vincent Stephens, 31 both of Bossier City drove up next to a 19-year-old man while he was walking in the 3800 block of Shed Rd. and Johnson allegedly pulled out a gun and demanded money from the victim.

The victim was reportedly able to run away, avoid injury and call police.
