Central ARTSTATION invites public to grand opening

Remember the old fire station at 801 Crockett St. in downtown Shreveport? Now, it's been renovated and houses an art space.

Central ARTSTATION is holding a grand opening of the new space between 4:30 and 8 p.m. today, Feb. 28. The renovation of this historic building will provide offices for SRAC’s administrative staff. Also, it also will act as a developmental space for artists and arts organizations with dedicated areas.

Bossier City needs lifeguards

Bossier City’s Parks and Recreation Department is now accepting applications for lifeguards to staff the city’s three public swimming pools this summer.

Applicants can sign up at the BPAR office in the Public Service Complex, 3223 Old Shed Road and are encouraged to do so at their earliest convenience in order to ensure all pools will be fully staff by opening day of May 31.

Registration is underway for the 2013 Bossier Parks and Recreation Youth Spring Soccer season for boys and girls ages 4 to 14. The season is scheduled to begin April 2. The deadline to register is February 22.

New Horizons to offer free tax preparation

New Horizons to offer free tax preparation

New Horizons Independent Living Center in Shreveport is offering free tax preparation and tax filing by a qualified and certified preparer.

The free service will be offered between January 30 and April 15 for household income at $51,000 and below. (The service is not available to those filing "Married Filing Separately. If filing "Married Filing Jointly," the spouse must be present at the time of the appointment.)

BPCC faculty piano duet recital date set

The Music Program at Bossier Parish Community College will present a faculty piano duet recital featuring Gulya Chandler and Joy Ratcliff at 7:30 pm on Friday, Feb. 8, in the BPCC Performing Arts Theatre, 6220 E. Texas Street. The recital is free and open to the public.

The repertoire will include Sonata in D Major, K. 381, by W. A. Mozart; Fantasy in F Minor  Op. 103, by Franz Schubert; and Dolly, Op. 36 by Gabriel Faure.
