Deadline for school district recipe contest extended | Community Spirit

Krewe de les Femmes  Mystique,along with the LSU AgCenter and the Northwest Chapter of the Louisiana Restaurant Association, has extended the deadline for submission of recipes for the Healthy School Lunch Contest. 

This contest, part of the year-long celebration, “Year of the Healthy Child,” was created in coordination with Bossier and Caddo Parish public schools. We're looking for healthy recipes which can be made and served in cafeterias in both school districts. 

Recipes must feature one of the following vegetables:  broccoli, carrots, sweet potatoes or squash. They must have less than 30% fat and low sodium. Finalists will prepare their recipes for a final taste test judged by students as well as adults. 

A total of $1000 in prize money will be divided among the winning submissions. Cooks of all ages are invited to submit as many recipes as desired by January 20, 2012.  Complete rules and information on how to enter can be found as www.yearofthehealthychild.com.
