Homeless invited to Rescue Mission for Thanksgiving

Information provided by: Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission

The homeless are invited to dine on Thanksgiving Day at the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission, Nov. 24, from noon to 2 p.m.

1500 meals are being prepared for Thanksgiving Day, and donations of desserts are still needed.

SBRM asks the community to remember the needs of the hungry and homeless during National Hunger and Homeless Awareness Week Nov. 12 - 20 by making a monetary or food donation.

A local restaurateur, Sam Gazawaneh of Sam's Eatery, is donating all the groceries needed to prepare this traditional Thanksgiving Day meal of turkey, cornbread dressing, green bean casserole, sweet potatoes, dinner rolls, and cranberry sauce.

The public is being asked to contribute homemade pies and desserts.

Dessert donations can be dropped off at the Shreveport-Bossier Rescue Mission at 901 McNeil St. at the kitchen loading dock between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Wednesday the week of Thanksgiving.

Volunteers are not needed to serve, since a sufficient number have already signed up to help on Thanksgiving Day, but the community is invited to help serve breakfast, lunch, or dinner throughout the year.
