The deadline for nominations is April 5. This year's Celebration of Caring starts 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 20, in the Red River District.

Holiday in Dixie to host first BBQ cook-off

The Holiday in Dixie Ambassadors Club will host the inaugural Holiday in Dixie BBQ Cook-Off from 3 to 10 p.m. on Saturday, April 20 in the riverfront area of Festival Plaza in downtown Shreveport.

Admission is $10 and includes three BBQ sample tickets. Additional sample tickets may be purchased for $1. Proceeds raised at the event will benefit the Holiday in Dixie Senior Essay Scholarship for Caddo and Bossier Parish students.

Bossier Parish Community College will open its gymnasium to local high school seniors and their parents for Senior Fling Open House at 6 p.m. on Thursday, March 21.

The open house will give seniors and their parents the opportunity to visit with representatives from the various academic divisions, meet instructors, experience our student organizations, and receive important financial aid information.

The Bossier Chamber is introducing a new event in 2013 and we're excited about the Tie'n up Business 5k/10k on Saturday.

Early Registration is $15.00 by February 15th, then increases to $20.00 through Race Day. The Chamber is also partnering with Bossier Schools to donate $1 to schools for each of their registered students.

Bossier women's advocacy group promotes "Women of Education"

The Commission for Women of Bossier City has announced its "Women in Education" effort as this year's theme for its annual Inspiring Women Week 2013. It will be held from Wednesday, March 6, through March 13.

Sponsored by the City of Bossier City, this year's celebration includes a kickoff breakfast, networking event, evening of pampering, painting at the Bossier Arts Council, self defense demonstration, internet crimes seminar and a Face Fair. 

The proceeds from this year’s events will benefit Northwest Louisiana Food Bank’s Back Pack Program and the Bossier Learning Center’s Adult Literacy Program.

MoJo's Nightclub in downtown Shreveport is the site of an on-going effort to keep the Shreveport dog park effort alive.

The Shreveport Dog Park Alliance is holdng a "Throw Me a Bone" fundraiser at MoJo's starting at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 8. Donations at the door will go to the Dog Park Alliance.
