SPAR sets annual MLK basketball tourney

Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation (SPAR) will host the 25th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Basketball Tournament from February 22 to 24. This tournament is designed to unite men, women and youth of all ethnic backgrounds for three days of fun and community unity.  Over $3,000 of cash prizes and awards will be given to championship teams.

Shreveport Opera will host its annual Mary Jacobs Smith Singer of the Year Competition, Shreveport's only national singing competition.

The event starts at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 20 at the Anderson Auditorium of Centenary College. Admission is free, but donations to Shreveport Opera are accepted.

Christmas Tree to be displayed at Shreveport Airport

The Shreveport Airport Authority has joined Shreveport and Bossier City schools to create a Christmas tree display at Shreveport Regional Airport.

For the second straight year, students are asked to make airport- or aviation-themed ornaments. Each tree will feature a different classroom ornament collection. The collection will be displayed on the pedestrian cross bridge at the top of the escalators at the airport.

BPCC's Fall 2012 graduation makes history

Bossier Parish Community College’s Fall 2012 graduation is set to be the largest fall graduation in the college’s 45-year history.

BPCC will hold two ceremonies for fall graduation on Friday, December 14, 2012:

  • 9:30 am - divisions of Technology, Engineering and Mathematics AND Science, Nursing and Allied Health
  • 2:30 pm – all other academic divisions

New Christmas tour to showcase historic Shreveport homes

Step-on tour guide Jan Pettiet recently announced the addition of Candlelight Christmas Tours, a guided tour featuring two of Shreveport’s most historic homes: the Logan Mansion and the Davis Homeplace.

The tours, scheduled for 6 to 8:30 p.m., Dec. 6, 7, 13 and 14, will depart from the overlook parking lot in downtown Shreveport’s Festival Plaza. Participants will ride on a shuttle provided by A-1 Charter Service. Tickets are $20 per person, and they can be purchased online by going to yesterdayslady.eventbrite.com.
